Huge challenges to water bodies and environment are rising levels of methylene blue (synthetic dye) in industrial effluent, because of its toxicity and refractoriness. (TiO2) Titanium dioxide is very effective photocatalyst having some flaws like limited visible light absorption that on large scale hinders analysis of TiO2 usage in environmental cleansing. Recent developments show that modifying TiO2 with silver nanoparticles (Ag- nanoparticles) increases effectively its photocatalytic activity as its performance is boosting visible light absorption and enhancing charge separation due to modification. This review evaluates recent improvements with respect to the synthesis of silver-doped TiO2 through sol-gel process and effectiveness of silver-doped TiO2 on methylene blue degradation. It discusses about factors of synthesis, photocatalytic activity, structure and physicochemical properties, at various degradation kinetics and experimental conditions. Comparative ratings against possible strategies of doping, current limitations and possible research guidelines are also mentioned. Another validation was in experimentation whereby Ag-TiO2 synthesized through sol-gel method was used to determine the Photocatalytic effect in UV irradiation. Final results show significant increase in degradation efficiency and verify results in literature as it is likely to present that in treatment processes of wastewater Ag-TiO2 could be considered as scalable, perspective and cost-effective photocatalyst.
