The following article focuses on the Low German administrative documents from the Lüneburg convents in the late Middle Ages. The investigation is centred on documents written by the nuns and an account book kept by various abbesses in Wienhausen Monastery. The question of the importance of written Low German within nunneries is central to this discussion. In a first step, in this study, the written documents are examined to determine their linguistic location. The aim is to differentiate the use of Low German within the monasteries and thereby obtain an insight into the written world of the sanctimonials.
