Bibliographic control plays an important role in the identification, organization, and accessibility of published literature. Urdu publications in India are documented through various bibliographic tools prepared by national bibliographic agencies, academic and oriental libraries, Urdu academies, and publishing organizations. The present study examines the types, institutional contributions, bibliographic characteristics, and challenges of these tools in the Indian context. It adopts a qualitative, descriptive, and analytical documentary approach based on published bibliographies, indexes, catalogues, institutional documentation, and relevant digital resources. The study identifies different categories of Urdu bibliographic tools and examines their functions in supporting the discovery of publications. The findings indicate that national bibliographic publications and specialized institutional tools make complementary contributions to Urdu bibliographic control. However, the distribution of these resources across different institutions, variations in bibliographic description and arrangement, and challenges associated with Urdu script and transliteration can affect their accessibility and effective use. The study also highlights the distinction between the digital availability of bibliographic resources and the provision of structured, searchable bibliographic information. It concludes that consistent descriptive practices, improved digital access, and greater institutional cooperation can strengthen the identification and accessibility of Urdu bibliographic resources. The study provides a focused documentary assessment of existing bibliographic tools and suggests practical measures for improving bibliographic control of Urdu publications in India.
