Building upon traditional scholarship, and grounded in the "Three-Dual Paradigm & Four-Coherence Criteria" of Kuaijie Sinology, this study supplements multi-dimensional evidence—including physical and socio-environmental contexts—to repair broken logical links, complete the entire closed loop, and achieve an iterative upgrade in the interpretation of classics. It provides an advanced understanding that is verifiable, reproducible, and aligned with real-world environments. For thousands of years, the proverb "The upper beam set askew, the lower remains crooked" has been widely misinterpreted as a moral admonition that the misconduct of superiors inevitably leads to the degeneration of subordinates. However, this conventional ethical interpretation is a later attachment that fundamentally deviates from the original essence. Integrating the physical logic of ancient Chinese mortise-and-tenon structures with construction regulations, this paper systematically restores the original semantic meaning of the proverb. It clarifies that "upper beam" and "lower beam" are not two separate physical beams, but rather two dynamic construction phases applied to the same core load-bearing beam. The true essence of the proverb is a pragmatic principle of system engineering: initial structural deviations at the top will permanently solidify once the framework is set, rendering all subsequent end-stage remedies futile.
