What can be derived about how the universe formed, and about what came before the hot early universe, if we start from recognition rather than from a hot initial state? This book works forward from three operational facts: distinguishable occurrences exist, comparing two of them needs information about both, and a later examination is a further occurrence. It uses four accepted results at their stated conditions: the comparison cost J(x) = ½(x + 1/x) − 1, golden scaling under the recognizing-join conditions, three dimensions under the linking conditions, and an eight-tick floor. On an account ledger the start is balance, not nothing. The empty record has cost zero and is an origin of the order of records, and the beginning is itself a premise: without nonnegative counts every ledger has a predecessor, and no shift-invariant law forces a first moment. The cheapest change is one unit post. The first tick costs 2J(r) with the ratio r left free; under two adopted premises, on a carrier where the post's bond is a bridge of weight one, the first event with its reciprocal costs √5 − 2. A complete pass of the parity bits needs eight ticks. Four adopted premises, with three adopted readings of the state, the tick and the weight, leave exactly one law for one recognizer, and under it the arrow of time sits in the record, not in the state. On a cell of sixteen records, the intervals that read the four postings alike, take rank as time, make every history step causal and are positive on the nonzero differences of records of equal rank are exactly the multiples λ(Σ_a y_a² − κ(Σ_a y_a)²) with λ > 0 and κ ≥ 1, all of them Lorentzian. On a clock-photon lattice with supplied data we prove regional stability, a dynamics of the register observables of the infinite lattice at every clock strength, a reference state, and, with the clock off and the registers on edges that fill their directions, the dephasing of each register's coherences. For many recognizers the joint law is not unique and conservation is pairing. Under an adopted energy reading one temperature, ε/log φ, is forced. The proved chain stops before any thermal or expanding phase is derived. We state that gap as an exact ledger, from the first thermal state to the dark sector, keeping values that hold only under named premises or measured inputs apart from predictions, and we state fifty-five open problems so that each can be proved or refuted. Results are proved on separate constructions and are never combined across them.
