Objective: to describe the ABO and Rh(D) blood group profile, sex, and age distribution among blood donor records from the Ceará Hematology and Hemotherapy Center (HEMOCE). Material and methods: retrospective, descriptive study of 149,897 blood typing records from voluntary donors attended at HEMOCE between July 1999 and March 2005, analyzed descriptively with results expressed as absolute and relative frequencies. Results: blood group O predominated (51.12%), followed by A (35.97%), B (10.03%), and AB (2.88%); 90.91% were Rh(D)-positive; most corresponded to male donors (76.64%) aged 18–35 years (71.55%). Conclusions: the predominant profile was O Rh(D)-positive among young male donors; these findings provide a historical benchmark for blood collection planning and inventory management in Northeastern Brazil.
