Low-impact fitness gymnastics and education reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive elderly patients.
Why the study?
Hypertension is a common health problem in the elderly that risks causing complications if uncontrolled, motivating this activity to increase the knowledge of health cadres and elderly individuals regarding hypertension and non-pharmacological management through safe physical activities.
Does a community service program involving cadre empowerment, hypertension education, and low-impact physical fitness gymnastics reduce blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension?
Does a community service program involving cadre empowerment, hypertension education, and low-impact physical fitness gymnastics reduce blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension?
Community-based empowerment of health cadres combined with low-impact elderly gymnastics and education is associated with significant reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure among older adults with hypertension.
Supports community-based exercise-education programs for elderly hypertension; leaves open confirmation in randomized trials.
Hypertension is a health problem that is often found in the elderly and is at risk of causing complications if not controlled. This service activity aims to increase the knowledge of health cadres and the elderly about hypertension and non-pharmacological management through safe physical activities. The activity was carried out at the Tohudan Elderly Posyandu, Colomadu District, Karanganyar Regency, with the target of health cadres and the elderly with hypertension. Methods include coordination, cadre empowerment, education, blood pressure checks, demonstrations and physical fitness exercises, and evaluation. Cadres play a role in coordinating and assisting participants. The activity supports promotive and preventive efforts to control hypertension at the Posyandu Elderly level.

Oktaviani et al. (2026) studied Hypertension in the elderly. Cadre empowerment, hypertension education, and low-impact physical fitness gymnastics (senam kebugaran jasmani) vs. Pre-intervention baseline (pre-test vs. post-test) was evaluated on Systolic and diastolic blood pressure reduction (pre-test vs. post-test) (p=0.000). Low-impact physical fitness gymnastics and hypertension education significantly reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension (Wilcoxon test p=0.000 for both).
