This report assesses the scale-up potential of bio-based fertiliser production from secondary raw materials across multiple pathways, ranging from mature technologies such as composting and anaerobic digestion to emerging approaches. For each pathway, the feedstock-based production potential, market-based demand potential and current production level are estimated, and the gap between the current and potential production is expressed as a scale-up potential and a scale-up factor. Table 1 provides an overview of the results. The pathways differ significantly in scale, maturity and the binding constraint for scale-up: for some products feedstock availability is the binding factor, whilst for most products the market demand determines the scale-up potential.
