The low level of students’ mathematical critical thinking skills provided the basis for conducting this study. This study focused on the development of instructional media in the form of an animated video that applies the metaphorical thinking approach to improve students’ mathematical critical thinking skills. The research and development process employed the ADDIE model. The subjects of this study include Mathematics Education lecturers, mathematics teachers, and students of SMP N 9 Jambi City. The instruments used consist of a material validation questionnaire and media design, a teacher and student practicality questionnaire, a student response questionnaire, and a test of students' mathematical critical thinking ability. The results of the study show that the learning media meets the product quality criteria. The material validity aspect is 88.3% "very valid" and the design is 90,9% "very valid". In the practicality aspect by teachers, 98.2% are "very practical" and students 80.5% are "very practical". Furthermore, the effectiveness aspect of the media was declared "very effective" based on the results of the student response questionnaire, with a score percentage of 87.25%, and an N-Gain value of 0.591 in the medium category. Thus, the developed learning media has been proven to be able to improve students' critical mathematical thinking skills.
