A community-based educational program integrating hypertension education and practical demonstration of roselle tea preparation improved short-term knowledge among local health cadres and residents with a history of hypertension.
Roselle tea (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) contains antioxidant compounds and may support blood pressure management. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge of Posbindu cadres and residents with a history of hypertension regarding hypertension complications and the complementary use of roselle tea. The program was conducted in Kliwed Village, Kertasemaya District, Indramayu Regency, in August 2025, involving 30 participants. Activities included health education, participatory discussion, and a demonstration of roselle tea preparation. Knowledge was evaluated using questionnaires administered before and after the education session. The activity summary reported an increase in average knowledge from 42% to 87%, corresponding to a gain of 45 percentage points. The added value of the program was the integration of hypertension education, practical use of roselle as a family medicinal plant, and the involvement of Posbindu cadres in addressing local needs. The findings indicate improved knowledge immediately after education; changes in blood pressure and sustained participant behavior were not evaluated. Continued cadre support and follow-up monitoring are needed to support community hypertension management
