Character design in video games functions as a visual communication system that conveys information about a character's identity, abilities, and gameplay role. This study analyzes how visual elements in Warframe character designs represent character abilities and gameplay roles using Roland Barthes' denotative semiotic approach. A descriptive qualitative method was employed to examine five Warframe characters representing damage, tank, and support gameplay roles: xaku, mesa, rhino, qorvex, and harrow. Data were collected through observation of official character designs, documentation, expert interviews, and questionnaires distributed to Warframe players. The analysis focused on four visual elements: silhouette, attributes, visual symbols, and visual effects. The findings indicate that these visual elements consistently function as denotative signs that communicate character abilities and gameplay roles. The study concludes that Warframe character design effectively integrates visual aesthetics with communicative functions, enabling players to recognize gameplay roles through visual observation.
