The increasing trend of electromagnetic interference which is brought by the presence of unwanted electromagnetic radiation could be resolved via designing efficient and reliable microwave absorber materials. Thus, magnetic materials with low coercivity, high saturation and remanance magnetization are required in order to efficiently absorb this unwanted electromagnetic radiation. Cubic spinel ferrites with AFe2O4 (A = Ni2+, Co2+, Mn2+, Mg2+ etc.) as a general formular have acquired extensive interest in the field of microwave absorption. Furthermore, spinel ferrites are used in magneto-optical and energy storage device due to their unique characteristics such as band gap energy in a semiconductor region, low coercivity, high saturation and remanance magnetization. This review aimed to summarize the recent progress and prospect in spinel ferrite nanoparticles for microwave absorption. The sections include introduction, origin of magnetism, ferrites, spinel ferrites, synthesis for spinel ferrites, theory of microwave absorption and microwave absorption performance of spinel ferrites.
