Implementing the Thought Stopping technique in a community setting may help families control negative thoughts and strengthen their involvement and support in hypertension care.
Hypertension is a disease known as a “silent killer” because it can cause serious complications and death. Its high prevalence and treatment needs make hypertension a priority health problem in Indonesia. This community service activity was conducted at Posyandu PTM in Harjosari Village, Pekanbaru, a service area of Poltekkes Kemenkes Riau. A preliminary survey identified limited family support among five hypertensive patients. The activity aimed to implement the Thought Stopping (TS) technique to help families control negative thoughts and improve support for members with hypertension. The intervention was conducted from February to October 2024 and involved 25 participants through three sessions using discussion, modeling, role playing, feedback, and transfer methods. The results showed improvements in participants’ ability to provide family support in hypertension management. The activity indicates that Thought Stopping can strengthen family involvement in hypertension care. This intervention is expected to improve family support and hypertension management for patients.
