A new species, Scymbalopsis klimenkoi sp. nov., is described and illustrated based on five specimens collected in the Alay Mountain Range, southern Kyrgyzstan. This species is related to the Central Asian S. kirghizica Gusarov, 1994 and S. reitteri (Jakobson, 1909), and can be distinguished from them by the details of the external morphology of the forebody and the shape of the aedeagus (when compared with S. reittigeri). A modified key to species of the genus Scymbalopsis Reitter, 1909 is provided, along with a distribution map for all Central Asian species of the genus. In addition, distribution patterns are briefly discussed, and problematic issues regarding the type localities of certain species are addressed.
