Family and sexual violence are significant public health issues in Aotearoa New Zealand, but research examining prevention strategies is limited. Grounded in Dutta's culture-centered approach, this study examines the primary prevention needs of older adults to reduce family violence and sexual violence in Aotearoa New Zealand as part of a broader project that is co-developing a prevention framework among high-risk groups. Through 63 interviews with older adults in Aotearoa New Zealand, participants expressed the central role of whānau (extended family) and community in reducing violence against older people through strengthening relationships, as well as the importance of education in increasing awareness of violence prevention throughout the lifespan. The findings disrupt singular, individualistic approaches to violence prevention by emphasizing responsibility, solidarity, and connection.
