Algeria has witnessed major advancements in the penitentiary sector within the framework of reform and prisoner social rehabilitation. The state has adopted diverse sentence adaptation mechanisms aligned with modern penological philosophy governing the treatment of incarcerated individuals. This culminated in the promulgation of the Penitentiary Organization Code, Law No. 05-04, as amended and supplemented, which introduced mechanisms and modalities for the treatment of inmates and guaranteed comprehensive assistance alongside favorable conditions to ensure their social reintegration and moral rehabilitation, both throughout custodial sentence enforcement and following post-release reentry, while actively harnessing modern technological innovations to advance this penal policy.
