Preventing, identifying, and overcoming obstacles to the detection and investigation of crimes is an important area of forensic science, impacting its eff ectiveness. The use of specialized knowledge in various forms for these purposes is an integral element, largely determining its eff ectiveness. The forms and methods of their use have already been discussed in forensic literature. However, in the current context of widespread digitalization and the active use of its capabilities by criminals, as well as the introduction of the latest scientifi c and technological advances into law enforcement, it has become necessary to update relevant recommendations with an emphasis on these capabilities. This article describes the changes that have occurred in the implementation of procedural and non-procedural forms of using specialized knowledge to prevent and overcome resistance to investigations. It outlines prospects for their use, taking into account trends in the development of information and digital technologies and rapidly changing practical needs. The problems that arise along this path are addressed and solutions proposed in organizational, legal, and methodological contexts.
