The article provides a theoretical justification for developing an organizational-economic mechanism for business development in the context of digitalization. The study’s relevance stems from the increasingly dynamic market environment, the widespread adoption of digital technologies, and the need to adapt management systems to new business conditions. The article aims to provide a theoretical justification for the nature, structural and functional design, and principles underlying the development of an organizational and economic mechanism for business development, taking into account the impact of digitalization. The study’s methodological framework draws on systems, structural and functional, and process approaches, along with methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison, systematization, and abstract and logical generalization. The study systematizes academic approaches to defining the concept of an ‘organizational and economic mechanism’ and summarises the main areas of its theoretical interpretation. The article proposes an original definition of an organizational and economic mechanism for business development in the context of digitalization as a purposeful, manageable system of organizational, economic, innovative, and digital forms, methods, levers, and management tools. These are designed to align resources, business processes, and management decisions to improve operational efficiency, adapt to changes in the business environment, facilitate technological renewal, and achieve strategic objectives. The rationale for distinguishing between the organizational, economic, innovative, and digital components of the mechanism is substantiated, and their respective functions are explained. The study establishes that the mechanism’s effectiveness depends on the coordinated interaction of its elements, rational resource use, management adaptability, and appropriate information and analytical support. Digitalization is considered a factor in transforming and improving the mechanism, contributing to the automation of business processes, more timely management decisions, and an enhanced capacity of business organizations to respond to changes in the external environment. The practical significance of the findings lies in their potential to improve business development management systems and develop adaptive business models in the context of digital transformation.
