The article deals with the problems of low energy efficiency of Uzbekistan's industry and the possibility of adapting the institutional mechanisms of the People's Republic of China. Based on a comparative analysis of the PRC's policy (the "Top-1000" and "Top-10,000" enterprise programs, energy intensity targets in five-year plans, and the mechanism of energy service contracts), tools applicable in Uzbek conditions are identified. It is shown that the greatest potential is associated with the targeted assignment of obligations to large energy consumers, the development of the energy service market and the creation of an energy consumption monitoring system. The limitations of transferring the Chinese experience due to differences in the scale of the economy, ownership structure, and tariff policy are identified.
