In a rhenium-doped SrZrxIr1−xO3 perovskite, high-valent Re stabilizes low-valent iridium active sites against overoxidation during acidic oxygen evolution. Dynamic Re–Ir–O interactions open a hybrid adsorbate-evolution/oxide-path mechanism, delivering a 250 mV overpotential, >1,300 A gIr−1 mass activity, and 600 h durability for low-iridium PEM water electrolysis.
