Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) is gaining attention in higher education as students seek a more practical approach than general language courses. Using technology in these courses provides learners with authentic materials and simulations to approach target situations. This article examines an immersive Virtual Exchange approach in which 50 business students from Ireland and Spain, studying Spanish and English respectively, used Virtual Reality (VR) for synchronous meetings to address societal and environmental challenges while developing twenty-first-century skills. Data collection involved pre- and post-surveys and Irish students’ written reflections throughout the project. A longitudinal follow-up included interviews with Irish participants, revealing how they applied learned skills during their work experience. The project highlights students’ growth in intercultural competence, teamwork, time management, language proficiency and critical thinking through challenges such as organising online meetings across time zones. The use of VR spaces helped participants feel more comfortable using the target language.
