This paper analyzes the economic relationship between credit portfolio quality and the efficiency of bank assets. Based on data from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan as of January 1 and July 1, 2026, changes in outstanding loans and non-performing loans are compared. During this period, the outstanding loan portfolio increased by 6.4%, while non-performing loans rose by 27.1%. The paper proposes the early identification of deterioration in portfolio quality, control of concentration across industries and borrower groups, and a stronger emphasis on cash-flow-based credit assessment. The recommendations are aimed at balancing loan portfolio growth with repayment quality and risk-adjusted profitability.
