Agricultural terminology is one of the most open layers of the vocabulary: new machines, technologies and forms of farming bring new names with them. In modern Karakalpak a large group of agricultural terms is usually described as borrowed from English. However, the language of origin of a term and the language through which it reached Karakalpak are often different, and the two are frequently confused in textbooks and dictionaries. The aim of this paper is to establish the origin and the routes of entry of agricultural terms regarded as English loanwords in Karakalpak.
