Abstract Industry today wants engineers who are not only technically proficient, but who also can speak and write well. The problem is that engineering students do not get many opportunities to practice these skills in their crowded curricula. The educational strategy in the following article suggests that incorporating a formal or semiformal speech into a (technical) writing assignment can improve a student's speaking and writing proficiency.
