Acne vulgaris is caused by hyperproliferation of the Propionobacterium acnes (P.acnes) bacteria which causes frustration and embarrassment for sufferers. Treatment using topical antibiotics is reported to cause resistance so that the use of natural ingredients form of Carica papaya L. leaves is very potential because the content of flavonoid compounds which have anti-acne activity. The research was carried out by extracting the samples using 70% ethanol and then purified in a liquid-liquid manner using n-hexane. Anti-acne activity test was carried out in vitro using the well method.The phytochemical screening results of crude extract and purified fraction of papaya leaves contains flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and terpenoids. The purified fraction was more effective in inhibiting P.acnes than the crude extract 1.8 mm ± 0.05 and 0.9 mm ± 0.04 respectively. The results showed that Carica papaya L. leaves were effective in inhibiting P.acnes in the weak inhibition category.
