Municipal infrastructure assets systems in South Africa are critical for urban development and service delivery. However, their performance can be improved through better management practices. The research employs a fixed effects model (FE) for analysing panel data, estimating the impact of various factors on asset performance and service delivery efficiency. Panel-data estimation revealed that investment in maintenance and upgrading had a significant positive effect on service quality (β = 0.45, t(198) = 3.27, p < 0.05). The application of panel data analysis provided insights into the effectiveness of different management strategies for municipal infrastructure assets. Adoption of a comprehensive maintenance and upgrading programme is recommended to enhance service delivery efficiency in South African municipalities.
