Detailed magnetometry was carried out over c.12ha within 5 areas by Archaeological Surveys Ltd using a SENSYS MAGNETO MXPDA 5 channel cart-based system. The instrument has 5 fluxgate gradiometers (FGM650) spaced 0.5m apart with readings recorded at 20Hz which equates to a survey resolution of 0.5m by c.0.15m The survey has located a concentration of archaeological features situated on the higher ground that relate to what appears to be a Romano-British settlement with associated field enclosures extending downslope. The concentration of anomalies indicates several phases of construction, with some potential surfaces towards the north western corner of the settlement. A complex of rectilinear enclosures with a number of trackways can be seen along with evidence for strongly magnetic anomalies indicative of intense burning. A fragmented curvilinear anomaly could relate to an earlier circular feature that has been truncated by the later Roman activity.
