The approved scheme of archaeological monitoring and recording was applied during groundworks in accordance to the approved WSI (A.Lane). This broad aim was too: " Determine the form and function of archaeological features exposed. " Recover any artefactual and other dating material/evidence. " Establish the sequence of and contextualised archaeological deposits. " Identify features exposed by the development groundworks. Development groundworks associated with the Land to the rear of Olcote House, King Edward Street, Belton did not expose any archaeological features or deposits within the development footprint. This is coupled with an absence of artefactual remains suggests that the site, or at least the development footprint has not been directly associated with any early settlement of the area. It therefor may be concluded that the development impact on archaeological remains is negligeable. With this absence no soil samples were also taken.
