Education and upbringing are a single process that contributes to the development of personality and the formation of a human being. Even the ancient sages said that one cannot become a human being without learning to act as a human being. Knowledge, virtues, piety are acquired through teaching, activity, education and upbringing. The article reveals the ways and means of spiritual and moral self-improvement of a person on the example of the teachings of the great thinker - humanist Jalaleddin Rumi, who was one of the coryphees of science and culture of the medieval East. His works of philosophical, methodological and pedagogical nature occupy a solid place in his creative heritage.
