This paper introduces the concept of "Cognitive Jerk" — the rate of change of cognitive acceleration — by extending classical mechanics' jerk concept (the third derivative of position) to cognitive science. As AI tools increasingly serve as cognitive prosthetics, individuals experience not merely faster learning (velocity) or improved efficiency (acceleration), but fundamental shifts in their mental models and thinking paradigms (jerk). We identify five phenomenological signatures of cognitive jerk: temporal distortion, the fatigue paradox, linguistic lag, social stratification, and mind-body dissociation. Drawing on real-world cases (entrepreneurs using AI tools, artists achieving professional-level output within months, and knowledge workers experiencing cognitive whiplash), we propose a theoretical framework that distinguishes cognitive jerk from traditional learning curves. This work contributes to understanding the psychological and social implications of rapid AI-mediated cognitive evolution, offering insights for education, mental health, and human-AI interaction design.
