ABSTRACT A facile and environmentally friendly method for synthesizing di‐2‐pyranone derivatives via a three‐component reaction operating without catalysts or additives has been developed. This method uses readily available and cost‐effective starting materials and is carried out in water under microwave irradiation. A diverse range of di‐2‐pyranones (22 examples) was successfully prepared with high efficiency, demonstrating excellent substrate compatibility. The protocol offers several advantages, including a one‐pot operation, rapid reaction process, straightforward synthesis and purification steps, and elimination of any external catalytic systems or auxiliary substances.
