Abstract On 21 November 1921, W. E. Crum wrote to H. I. Bell: ‘My dear Bell — Is this ostracon legible enough for you to improve my attempt at a reading? I’d be much obliged.’ There follows a transcription, with Bell’s corrections, and Crum continues: ‘It came presumably from D. el Bahri it does not seem likely that the original will be rediscovered soon. As it is something apparently unique, I thought it would be worth presenting an edition based on Crum’s transcript as revised by Bell.
