The article examines the content and practical significance of role modeling and competence-based approach for the modern system of organizational management. Particular attention is paid to detailing the structure of managerial competencies and describing the tools and algorithms of role modeling. The stages of implementation of the competence-based approach are analyzed: identification of key competencies, creation of competence models for different categories of managers in conjunction with role scenarios. The issues of challenges facing managers, adjustments to the performance assessment system and the formation of mechanisms for transferring the role model are covered.
