A lewis acid-catalyzed cyclization achieves high yields of 3-sulfonylbenzofurans in o-hydroxyphenyl propargylamines, indicating efficient synthesis.
A Lewis acid-catalyzed cyclization for the synthesis of 3-sulfonylated benzofurans using o-hydroxyphenyl propargylamines and sodium sulfinate compounds has been developed. This reaction proceeds through: (i) acid-mediated in situ generation of o-AQMs, (ii) sulfite ion-initiated sulfa-Michael addition, followed by (iii) Lewis acid-promoted annulation, enabling efficient construction of 3-sulfonylbenzofurans in generally good to excellent yields.
