Comparative analysis shows no significant difference in safety or efficacy between carotid balloon angioplasty and endarterectomy in treating restenosis.
Comparative analysis of clinical efficacy of different surgical treatments for restenosis after carotid artery stenting. The clinical data of 11 patients with restenosis after carotid stenting in our hospital from October 2021 to September 2024 were retrospectively collected and analyzed. According to the surgical treatment, the patients were divided into a carotid balloon angioplasty group and a carotid endarterectomy group. The basic data of the 2 groups were recorded: age, gender, smoking history, drinking history, hypertension history, diabetes history, blood lipid analysis, NIHSS score at admission, and carotid stenosis degree. The incidence of cerebral embolism, cerebral hemorrhage, and other complications in the 2 groups was analyzed, and the prognosis was evaluated after 6 to 12 months of clinical follow-up. Restenosis was significantly improved in all patients, and the intracranial blood supply was good. There was no significant difference in the basic data, postoperative cerebral hemorrhage (P=0.2727), and clinical prognosis (P=0.2727) between the 2 groups. Three patients underwent balloon angioplasty, and 1 patient died of postoperative cerebral hemorrhage. Carotid endarterectomy was performed in 8 cases, of which 1 case had severe restenosis and underwent drug-eluting balloon angioplasty and stent implantation again. There was no significant difference in safety and clinical efficacy between carotid balloon angioplasty and carotid endarterectomy in the treatment of restenosis after carotid stenting. Due to the small number of surgical samples and the interruption of follow-up in some patients, there is a lack of further research on whether the difference in internal carotid artery restenosis after secondary surgery is statistically significant.
