Research reveals significant effects of cognitive biases on decision making in digital projects, indicating potential risks to project success.
In recent years, decision-making in projects, including digital product development projects, has increasingly become a subject of interest in both academic and research communities. Despite the continuous improvement of project management frameworks, project success rates and the quality of decisions made remain far from ideal. This article examines the impact of cognitive biases on decision-making in digital projects compared to the influence of "classical" project success factors. We employed a sequential research design that included regression analysis, a vignette-based experiment, and a field experiment. The results demonstrate that cognitive biases have a significant effect on decision-making and, consequently, on project success. These findings highlight the importance of further research into cognitive biases and their influence on decision-making, particularly in the context of digital projects.
