Review highlights ayurgenomics' potential in personalized medicine by linking prakriti and genomics.
Prakriti, a fundamental Ayurvedic concept, defines an individual's unique physical, physiological, and psychological constitution, shaped by the relative dominance of the Tridoshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. It determines an individual's predisposition to diseases, response to environmental factors, diet, and therapies. The integration of this ancient phenotyping system with genomics, known as Ayurgenomics, has opened avenues to understand inter-individual variability in health and disease within the framework of personalized medicine. By correlating Prakriti types with genetic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic markers, Ayurgenomics aims to refine predictive, preventive, and personalized therapeutic approaches. This review elaborately discusses Prakriti in Ayurvedic philosophy, methodologies for its assessment, scientific investigations linking Prakriti with genomics, potential clinical applications, and future prospects in integrative healthcare.
