Clinical case observations reveal appendicitis mimics in pediatric neuroendocrine tumors, highlighting the importance of diagnosis.
BACKGROUND. Neuroendocrine tumors of the appendix in children often occur under the clinic of acute appendicitis. In this article, we have reflected the catamnesis, as well as our experience in the diagnosis and treatment of this pathology. CLINICAL CASE DESCRIPTION. The article presents clinical observations of three patients who were urgently admitted for inpatient treatment with an acute abdominal clinic at the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital in Saransk in 2021-2024. Due to timely diagnosis and treatment, laparoscopic appendectomy was sufficient in all cases for patients to recover. CONCLUSION. Thus, histological verification after appendectomy is an extremely important diagnostic method, not only as a final verification of the diagnosis, but also to exclude atypical changes in the appendicular process. In the case of a morphological picture of a carcinoid, an additional diagnosis is performed, which makes it possible to assess the prevalence of the tumor process and the need for additional treatment.
