Analysis reveals the importance of pressure evaluations in PCCP systems, indicating potential for improved maintenance practices.
High-resolution condition assessments provide valuable data for planning repairs and replacements, but transforming this data into informed renewal and management decisions can be challenging. Evaluating Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) involves analyzing various structural limits, based on operating and transient pressures, to set renewal thresholds and optimize rehabilitation costs. High-frequency pressure monitoring is relatively inexpensive and can reveal pressure events atypical of what is expected, allowing for the identification of improved maintenance and operational recommendations. This paper discusses the value of evaluating pipeline pressure with case studies from the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) in Michigan and Corpus Christi Water (CCW) in Texas.
