Comparative analysis of trade balances reveals the Global North depends on imports, highlighting ongoing rivalry in the metals market.
This article presents a thorough examination of the current dynamics between the countries of the «Global North» (G7) and the «Global South» (BRICS) within the international metals market. The study identifies the main facets of competition between these two blocs. The research methodology incorporates a comparative review of trade balances, an assessment of raw material reserves and production capacities, alongside a regression analysis exploring the impact of the metallurgical sector on GDP. Findings reveal that G7 nations heavily rely on imports of metallic raw materials, whereas BRICS countries maintain a commanding presence in both export volumes and production output. The analysis highlights distinct specialization patterns: while the G7 leads in precious metals, BRICS dominate in ferrous and rare earth metals. The study underscores that the metals market remains a critical arena of geoeconomic rivalry, shaping the foundation of the future global manufacturing landscape.
