Analysis reveals sp2 carbon's role in forming martensitic phases in Fe–Ni nanoparticles on nanodiamond templates.
Ferromagnetic fcc Fe–Ni nanoparticles, enveloped by sp 2 graphitic-type nanostructures, are grown on nanodiamonds matrices, which provide the carbon atoms that further diffuse in the metallic Fe–Ni alloy to form a non-extensive martensitic-type phase.
