The article examines the evolutionary and institutional possibilities of economic growth in the Russian national economy. The purpose of the work. To analyze the evolutionary and institutional possibilities of economic growth in a transitional economy. To consider the problems of incomplete market transformation in Russia in connection with the specifics of transition processes. Methodology. The research uses methods of historical and economic analysis, theory of industrial and technological balance of the economy, system paradigm, evolutionary and institutional theory, expert and analytical assessments. Results. The evolutionary and institutional possibilities of economic growth in a transitive economy are analyzed. The problem of the incompleteness of market transformation in Russia, due to the specifics of transition processes, is considered. Key challenges related to institutional changes, transaction costs, and organizational structure modification have been identified. Special attention is paid to the mechanism of transformation traps, the role of quasi-institutions and the influence of the state as a meta-institution in the context of institutional changes. Conclusions. The evolutionary and institutional analysis of economic growth in a transitive economy demonstrates the importance of institutional changes and adaptive mechanisms that determine the trajectory of development. The market transformation taking place in Russia and other transition economies is accompanied by institutional instability, making it difficult to achieve sustainable economic growth.
