Field observation and survey reveal high traffic violations among motorcyclists, indicating poor understanding of road laws.
This study analyzes the traffic behavior of motorbike riders at several intersections in Ho Chi Minh City, focusing on two main groups: students and technology drivers. The research method combines field observation using UAVs at four intersections, one building location, and a survey with 260 participants. The results show a high rate of violations, including not wearing helmets, running red lights, and using phones while driving, with technology drivers showing the highest violation rates. These violations primarily occur during peak hours for commuting to school and work (6 AM - 8 AM and 5 PM - 7 PM). Specifically, phone usage violations are concentrated during delivery peak hours (11 AM - 1 PM). The survey results regarding knowledge of road traffic laws indicate that only 23% of participants answered all questions correctly, reflecting a limited understanding of important regulations among road users, which is one of the causes of violations of road safety laws. The authors also propose several necessary and appropriate solutions to address current issues, aiming to reduce traffic violations in the future.
