A BSTRACT Background: Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, but the factors triggering immunity to cause the disease are yet unclear. However, some studies indicate that multiple exogenous and endogenous stimuli trigger the already heightened innate immune responses in genetically predetermined individuals. Ayurveda has described some potential triggering factors to play role in the development of all skin diseases, including psoriasis ( Ekakushtha ). This study explores the prevalence of one of those groups of etiological factors in the form of Rakta Dhatu Dushti Hetu (triggering factors vitiating blood) in patients with psoriasis. Knowing the etiology comprises an essential part of the Ayurveda intervention modality to avoid the same during the treatment protocol ( Nidana Parivarjana ). Aim: To study the prevalence of Rakta Dushti Nidana in patients of Ekakushtha (psoriasis). Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, questionnaire-based survey was carried out in the skin outpatient department. At New Delhi and 100 psoriasis cases were included to collect the information on the prevalence of etiological factors, from July 2021 to March 2022. Results: Aharaja Nidana for Rakta Dushti reported in the study are as follows: Madyapana, Ati Lavana, Ati Amla, Ati Katu, Alookama, Mansa, Dadhi, Takra, Upaklinna Bhojana, Ati snigdha, Kala Viruddha, Veerya Viruddha, Parihara Viruddha, Paka Viruddha, Samyoga Viruddha, Vidhi Viruddha Viharaja Nidana found are- Diwaswapa, Atapa Sevana and Manasa Nidana are Krodha, Shoka , in the patients of psoriasis. Conclusion: Rakta Dushti Nidana (aetiological factors for vitiation of blood) in the form of an individual’s dietary and behavioral such as Viruddha Aahar, Diwaswapa, Krodha, Shoka could be acting as a potential trigger factor in the patients of psoriasis. They should be considered as important components in the consideration of prevention and management of diseases in the form of Nidana Parivarjana (avoidance of etiological factors) as described in Ayurveda.
