Experimental analysis shows improved impact toughness of titanium alloy under varied heat treatment modes, indicating key fracture mechanisms.
The impact toughness KCV, dynamic crack resistance and fracture mechanisms of (α+β) - titanium alloy VT23 in quenched (800 and 860 °C) and aged (500 and 550 °C, 8 h) states have been studied. The relationship between the parameters of the descending section of the impact loading diagram and the fracture toughness of the alloy was revealed. It was found that quenching from 860 °C provided the highest value of KCV = 276 kJ / m2 in the presence of a predominant ductile fracture.
