Observational analysis reveals the effectiveness of tranexamic acid for postpartum hemorrhage, indicating vital intervention timing within 3 hours post-birth.
( Lancet . 2024;404(10463):1616–1618. DOI: 10.1016/S0140-6736(24)02302-X) Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a major global health issue, affecting around 14 million women annually, with 70,000 fatalities. Accurate prevention and treatment are vital, and tranexamic acid (TXA), an antifibrinolytic drug, has been widely studied as a potential solution. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends its use within 3 hours of birth for women with clinically diagnosed PPH, based on the results of the WOMAN trial published in 2017, which demonstrated a reduction in maternal death due to bleeding.
