Research demonstrates optimal downforce at 200 N improves hardness and alters microstructure in 40X13 steel.
Using the example of a 40X13 (Russian name) steel billet, the effect of the downforce during ultrasonic shock treatment on the microstructure, geometric parameters of the treated area and the hardness of the material has been studied. It is shown that for a 40X13 steel billet material, the optimal downforce value is 200 N. The chosen mode of shock ultrasonic treatment leads to a significant change in the structure (reduction in size and increase in the volume fraction of carbides) and properties (increase in hardness) of the surface layers of the studied samples.
