Cross-sectional survey identifies key factors affecting commuter satisfaction in Tema's transportation modes, suggesting improvements.
This study explores commuter satisfaction with transportation modes in urban Ghana, with Tema as the case. It focuses on factors that influence satisfaction, including commuting time, commuter expectations, passenger complaints, and passenger loyalty. Using a cross-sectional survey design, data was collected from a sample of 288 respondents across different demographic backgrounds. The results indicate that commuters in Tema are highly satisfied with the transportation modes. Also, it was revealed that key factors like timeliness, reliability, comfort, affordability, and safety significantly impact commuter satisfaction and highlight areas of improvement. However, challenges such as overcrowding, inconsistent schedules, and uncleanliness in public transport facilities were observed as hindrances to overall high levels of satisfaction. Additionally, the study found that positive commuter experiences and reward programs could promote loyalty and encourage regular use of public transport. These findings emphasize the need for improved service quality, scheduling, and safety to enhance the public transport experience of commuters in Tema.
