Descriptive research finds emotional intelligence significantly affects academic success in English and mathematics, highlighting its importance for students.
This study investigated the influence of emotional intelligence on senior secondary school students’ academic achievement in English language and mathematics in Nasarawa State. Two objectives were formulated with two research questions and two null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive research design was adopted for the study with a population of 21,875 students and a sample size of 400 students. Multistage sampling technique was used for this study and two instruments, which includes Students’ emotional intelligence Questionnaire and Mock Profoma were used to collect data for the study. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and simple percentages for descriptive data while chi-square was used to test research hypotheses. Findings based on the hypothesis one showed that self-awareness has a significant influence on students’ academic achievement in senior secondary schools in Nasarawa state. It is therefore recommended that learners should be guided on how to handle conflict constructively and how to get along well with others as this will help in enhancing their academic achievement
