This prose poetry sequence explores the trans-cultural identity of a migrant teacher, highlighting multicultural experiences and pedagogical ecologies.
You’re a wandering wondering teacher, belonging nowhere yet everywhere. You’re a Singapore-born, Malaysian Chinese teacher, teaching English across Singapore to Shanghai to Melbourne. Across cities, across cultures. Trans-cultural. You never settle. You feel out of place. You move around places, you make unexpected connections, entanglements. You teach and learn, interdependently with humans, non-humans, the environment. These pedagogical sites, these cities – your ecologies. Your trans-cultural1 teacher identity moves according to each ecology. You’re in-between stations, on a journey of relational wandering. You’re a MIMUMAMIT teaching migrant marginal multicultural students – everyone is mixed multicultural marginal migrant. Marginality as location.
